“For nothing will be impossible with God.” And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
Luke 1:37–38, ESV
Nothing is impossible for God. This is a motto that we all should live by as Christians. Yet, how often do we want to or attempt to limit God? God’s limitations are set by His consistent nature alone. Nothing else can place any limits on Him. Mary realized this when she was told that she would bear His child as a virgin. This was not something she desired, nor would she have chosen. She did not beg God not to do this or curse God for putting her in a challenging situation. Submission is a struggle for us. Most young children don’t like it when either parent tells them that they cannot play the way they want to or when they desire to eat something delicious but are told, “No!” Like them, we may kick or scream against God with little to no impact on making anything change. The more we submit, the greater level of peace from our Father in Heaven will be felt within our lives. It’s not that the sacrifice won’t be known, but the reward will be enjoyed to a greater degree, and we will truly know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
