“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8, EHV
As disciples, our Lord Jesus Christ utilizes the gift given to us in our Baptism, the Holy Spirit, to be our teacher, and He will help us in our mission to spread the Gospel. As we submit ourselves and our lives to the service of our Lord, we will find opportunities to share the Gospel with people. There will be those who receive it and others who will reject the gift, but that is not our doing; we leave it to the Holy Spirit as He moves. No amount of cajoling on our part will convince someone to believe in our Lord, but we can share our story of faith and let it be. This calling we receive is a gift, as we may be given the opportunity to witness lives transformed by the Holy Spirit. Don’t be discouraged when some abuse the spirit of generosity our Lord puts upon us and walk away after they receive what they want, but pray that the Holy Spirit does work within them and bring them deeper into the faith of Jesus Christ. It isn’t our peace we give, but it is the peace of our Lord, and in this we can rest and be content.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
