Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.
Genesis 5:24, LSB
Enoch was the father of Methuselah, who lived the longest of all the patriarchs, and the great-grandfather of Noah. He walked the earth for 365 years, and then it just says he was not. His walk with God was so close that he became the first to just be with God. There was no big fanfare like Elijah and the chariot; his journey ended. It also doesn’t say that God buried him like Moses. Imagine the faith of Enoch to be gifted such an honor. He could have been like his son and lived a year prior to the flood and taken that honor, but he was blessed to continue his walk with God for eternity. This is our gift: as we walk with our Lord Jesus Christ, we will be able to walk with our Lord into eternity. We may not be blessed like Enoch was, but our Lord has promised us eternity with Him. To think of the witness that he left for his children, the stories he must have told them growing up and how Methuselah and Lamech were treated with them along with other family members. I could imagine what was shared with Noah and then his sons to build them up in the faith. Our journeys in life are meant to be spun with tales of our Lord’s providence for us and how our faith shapes our every action. Let our journey be carried close to God as we tell others of His glory and seek to keep our walk so close to Him that one day we will just walk into the fullness of His glory, leaving His peace with all who know and love us.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
