Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.
Proverbs 10:9, ESV
In a world that places such a great emphasis on image, it can be challenging to live with integrity. We love the terms “relevant” and “real,” but when confronted with the reality of what it means and how our “real” self is not aligned with God, instead of being honest, we lie to ourselves and blame God for our shortcomings. We like to excuse our sin with the idea that “God created us this way.” Adam and Eve were created in the image of God, but because of the Fall, that image has been distorted in us as we bear the image of our first parents. God desires to restore us and recreate us as was intended, and that began when He entered Creation in His Son, Jesus Christ. We are being recreated through our Lord, but that work is not completed until we see Him face to face in His return. As we walk with our Lord and His Holy Spirit works within us, our journey towards a life of integrity begins as we continually have our hearts renewed and the distortions revealed. As David wrote in Psalm 51, “Create in me a clean heart, O Lord,” so too are we to cry out and ask for Him to change our hearts and lead us deeper into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
