In pointing out these things to the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following.
1 Timothy 4:6, LSB
As faithful followers of our Lord, Jesus Christ, we are called to be discerning and open to correction, as well as kindly correcting others when we see issues or misinterpretations. It isn’t about placing ourselves above another, nor is it to mock their failures or misinterpretations of the Word. Correction isn’t meant to be punitive, nor is it meant to bring embarrassment, but humbly approaching another with the Word and speaking truth in love. Just as we are called to correct our children and our siblings, so is it true for the family of Christ. When we stay true and faithful to the sound teaching given to us in Scripture, we wrestle with one another as we journey together in faith and seek to purely proclaim God’s truth to all who will listen. It doesn’t mean that it won’t bring with it some difficulty, but it is the path on which our Lord leads so we may all come fully into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
