Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Genesis 2:24, ESV

Marriage…this is a gift from God. It was not granted by kings, emperors, presidents, legislatures, or judges, but by the one and only King of the Universe. Given for a purpose. The union of one man and one woman, two parts that are not the same, but complement one another and create a new whole as they become one flesh. It is the relationship that God utilizes to explain the union He desires with us, as His chosen people. We are chosen by Him as His bride as He calls us into Himself. The distortions we see can confuse the mind and lead us away from the true calling. As I reflect on my own anniversary and see the gift of my bride, the journey God has led us I am thankful that God has kept us together as He is also the one who made us more whole in one another. The gift of a spouse is a precious blessing of God and it is in this wonderful union we are blessed as our Lord binds two together with His glorious thread for family, for community, and for the faith as He utilizes us to show His glory that others may be led into His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
