God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2:4, ESV
“Why is God so judgmental?” I hear this or a variation of it often when talking about the Christian faith. There will indeed be those who will not enter God’s kingdom. There are those who will not be chosen by God. The fact that there are any who will enter into His glory is a sign of His mercy. God is not judgmental, but He is just. We are the ones who rebel. We choose sin. All of us. Jesus came to give us a path to God. Paul reminds us that the consequence of sin is death. Jesus offers us life and life abundantly. This is God’s mercy. Jesus took upon Himself all of our sin for all time when He died on the Cross. He rose and gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit to reveal to us this truth and to give us belief and faith. Without this, the truth is obscured, but He did this so that all may have the opportunity to know Him and come to salvation. He came to replace our hearts of stone that lead us into rebellion against God and give us hearts of flesh to know our Lord’s love and to receive His full mercy as He leads us into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
