Romans 3:20

For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

Romans 3:20, ESV

People sometimes become angry when the Law is revealed to them, and they find themselves on the wrong side of it. That is why so many struggle with the Scriptures, because it reveals shortcomings and failures and damages their pride. We see this in our world today as so many accuse followers of Christ of being judgmental and narrow-minded. The revelation of the Law, however, will not bring one person closer to God unless they are offered a way out of the punishment it will bring. Jesus doesn’t abolish or excuse the Law, but He redeems us and forgives us of our failure to keep it. The difficult part is that many want to feel justified on their own and seek to either attack others for the sins that they feel are worse, so they may feel justified, or deny it altogether. As followers of Christ, the revelation of our sin allows us to be released from its power as we lay it at the foot of the Cross, knowing we have been forgiven and enter into our Lord’s peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
