“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.”
John 17:22–23, LSB
Unity. This is what we are called to in faith. Our Lord desires for us to be in unity with one another in faith just as the three persons of the Godhead are in unity with one another. Unity does not equal uniformity. We are created uniquely with gifts meant to come together to benefit our Lord and His creation. Human nature likes to find agreement in everything, and we often identify disagreement as opposition. However, when we see the goal as unity, we will find that understanding is what we are called to seek. When we understand the viewpoints of another, we may not find that we agree with our views, but we may be unified in the outcomes we seek to achieve. Our unity in faith is centered on the Word of God and our understanding of the Godhead. This is the power of the faith we hold as Christians. In our unity, we are able to reflect the love of our Lord Jesus Christ and shine His light out into a world that yearns to know Him. We can love as our Lord loves which is not as the world loves. As our Lord desires for us to be under His protection and care, we can call others into His love and bring all whom He has called to the peace of His protection and reflect the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
