For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by ear, neither has the eye seen a God besides You, who acts for the one who waits for Him.
Isaiah 64:4, MEV
Waiting is a reality for all of us. It’s not that we like to wait; we want to pick the shortest line, drive in the fastest lane, have things start and end on our schedule, etc. How many comedy movies and sketches have been done about waiting for the repairman or the installer? With God, we are called to wait. We can’t rush His return. We can’t make someone quickly believe in Him. It takes the time it takes, and when it happens, it will be the right time. God doesn’t act like we want Him to act. He’s not a salesman chasing a sale. He is not concerned with our schedule or our plans. He calls us to patiently wait for Him and seek His ways. He is not desperate for us to believe in Him. If we don’t act or do as He wills, He will offer correction. Yet it is He who also calls us to rest and to be calm. He desires our hearts to be stilled. He desires that we should never be anxious or worry. He calls us simply to wait. Wait for His guidance, wait upon His word, wait upon His return. What are we to do as we wait? Faithfully live out our lives, help others in times of struggle, lead others to His peace, care for His creation, etc. Waiting does not equal doing nothing, but in our waiting, we are called to be as He has called us to be and remain in His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
