But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.
1 Thessalonians 5:8, ESV
We are children of the light and belong to the Son. We are a people set apart to live a sober life focused on the light of Christ and not caught up in the drunkenness of a darkened world. For this purpose, we have been given protection as we walk in the full armor of our Lord. We do not enter the world unprepared, but are called to readiness with the Gospel upon our lips and written upon our hearts. As followers of Christ, we are different because Christ has made us different. For those who have been led out of darkness, we know the pitfalls and dangers that sit in the darkened life and all that goes on in darkness. The shame that entraps so many who wish to break free, but have been sold the lie that they are beyond saving. We walk ready to extend a hand to those who cry out for help and serve as their guard and shield, leading them into Christ’s light and drawing all who are called to the freedom and peace our Lord offers.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
