Such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, and you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus by the Spirit of our God.

All of us are born into sin. This is reality, but for some, that reality is more clearly on display for the world to judge and remind them of their sin. Here is another reality: in Christ, all who enter the waters of Baptism are washed clean and made new. We no longer must be fearful of the judgment we knowingly deserve. The sins of our past have been covered and removed from us. The world may continue to judge us for them, but, more importantly, God no longer does. Our lives are new and we have the fuller promise of eternal life in Him and can witness His glory to all who we meet because we have been made right through the promises of God and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, our Lord, as we are lead with certainty into His hope, promise, and peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
