Mark 7:10–12

For example, Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and ‘Whoever speaks evil of his father or mother must be put to death.’ But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or mother, “Whatever help you might have received from me is corban” ’ (which means an offering), then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother.

Mark 7:10–12, EHV

Placing man-made or oral tradition above God’s Word has been, and remains, an issue throughout the history of God’s chosen. We are to look to the Word to guide our actions and seek to be faithful to God. In honoring our parents, we obey God and show His glory, as this will guide how we act in the world. Throughout Scripture, we are regularly taught the importance of respect and honor. The greatest offering we give to God is ourselves, and in giving ourselves to God, we care for those whom He cares about and seek to be His light to all whom He seeks. This is the tradition of God, which we are reminded to keep, and if human traditions or teachings contradict those of our Lord, we are to stay with the teachings of our Lord and be a light to others, leading to His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
