Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, You who serve Him, doing His will. Bless the LORD, all you works of His, In all places of His dominion; Bless the LORD, O my soul!
Psalm 103:21–22, NASB95
We are created to worship. It is our nature. This worship, however, is never passive but very active. It is more than reciting prayers and singing hymns, but it engages every part of who we are as our minds' focus is taken away from self and directed to our object of devotion. It is an outpouring of appreciation, joy, and exaltation. This is what our Lord desires of us, and He is jealous of our worship being directed toward anything but Him. So, we are reminded to keep our eyes focused on Him and not on other things that can distract us from Him. We can show our devotion toward our Lord as we celebrate and live our lives, and must not just be directed to Him in a worship service, but nothing else can replace time with fellow followers of Christ as we truly direct our worship to the one, true God. The power of our prayers and our praise is significant. We are the people of the promise, and it is this reality in which our Lord desires for us to know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
