If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.

1 Corinthians 12:26, ESV

The concept of us being part of one body, extending the idea beyond “family” or “community,” is a beautifully descriptive image of our Lord’s desire for us to be united as His people. We all know about disharmony in our families and communities, and the havoc it wreaks; yet, no greater difficulty comes upon us as we find ourselves living with parts of our body that are not functioning as they are meant to. Though when we reflect upon it, we know the problems that arise when members of our congregations push for and do things that are not healthy for a congregation as a whole. We also know the trouble that arises when there are issues between our various congregational and denominational parts of the Church. Our Lord desired unity within His followers, but we find such disharmony. Our Lord is ever calling us to come together, centered in the Word and finding our hope and peace together as we seek Christ’s face and know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
