Acts 13:36

“For after David had served by the counsel of God in his own generation, he fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw decay.”

Acts 13:36, MEV

Like Jesus, all of us have a calling to serve God and are gifted in specific ways to serve the purposes of God. King David sought God’s guidance throughout his life, and when His purposes were fulfilled, he died and was laid to rest in a tomb. We, too, have callings that God has created us to fulfill, and He seeks to bring us into redemption, but the majority of us will meet death, and our bodies will face the corruption of decay. The promise of our resurrection and renewal lies ahead of us also, yet when our purposes are at their completion, we too will be laid to rest.  Paul is reminding us in his words of the importance of a life lived in the witness of our Lord. Though we die, our witness is carried on through the generations we impact. It is this calling our Lord places on all of us who believe and trust in Him so we may bring others to Him and shine out His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
