Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:13–14, ESV
When we are baptized in Christ Jesus, our life begins anew. The process of this is something lived throughout our lives, however. Yesterday’s mistakes need not define us. Today is where we live, and we are called to glorify our Lord in this time with a realization that the prize lies ahead as we seek to achieve greatness that shines His light on all of creation. We are not meant to look back and stand on our laurels. Forward is our calling as we never retreat or recess from our faith, but strive ahead to the glory of our Lord. If we suffer, we suffer for the Lord. If we are filled with bounteous joy, we are joyful in the Lord. As followers of Christ, we are to know that all things of this world are temporary, but we strive for that which is eternal, and in the knowledge of the gift of eternity with our Lord, we can know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
