Psalm 24:3–4

Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? Who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

Psalm 24:3–4, MEV

Which of us can honestly say that we have pure hearts and have not sinned? None of us can say that, so we are not able to attain the heights of God nor know His mind until we seek after His heart. We are called to know our Lord and be unburdened by our past failures as we pursue Him, not with our own ideas but in the Word. How often do we find people who seem to believe themselves holy because of all they have done in their lives? The arrogance that flows from their lips and the stench that pours out from their words overwhelms and reveals hearts often not tied to the heart of God. They toss out that which they find inconvenient or ignore the warnings of God they deem to be unwarranted as they proclaim the love of God in their lives. The lack of humility drips from them and oozes out of every crevice as they proclaim falsehood to unwitting ears of either salvation or condemnation as they act as though they have ascended the mountain and are God’s mouthpieces. Yet, their words reveal how removed they are from God as they are wrapped up in their own sense of entitlement. Our hearts are lifted as we realize our need for God and His love and make no oaths based on unholy premises. We are called to seek after our Lord and His face and pursue Him down all avenues as we seek Him out and desire to know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
