Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their works follow them.”
Revelation 14:13, MEV
What is our reward for our labors of faith? Rest. It isn’t as though we will measure our accomplishments in Heaven, as though salvation in our Lord Jesus Christ isn’t enough to achieve, but we will have rest as we no longer will strive for the things that we once thought important, and we will no longer toil or stress to earn a living. The beauty of the heavenly kingdom will be greater than anything we could ever imagine, but it will not be the sole focus for any of us, because the sinful nature will be removed, so we may focus solely on the worship of our Lord by living our lives as He originally intended. Doing that which gives us our greatest joy. God didn’t tell Adam and Eve to sit and do nothing, but gave them charge of the garden, and so will it be for us as we are given charge of the Kingdom of Heaven. Not to labor, but to tend and do so to the full glory of God. Not as slaves, but as heirs who have inherited it all to be with our Lord and reside in His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
