‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘Indeed, we are also his offspring.’ “Therefore, since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by human skill and planning.
Acts 17:28–29, EHV
It is silly to think that something created with human hands and skills could be worshipped as a God, but throughout history, that has been the norm. We like to create objects to show our love for creation, but sadly, many move from admiration to adoration, bowing to the statues and turning them into idols. Yet, for those of us chosen by God, we know the one true God, who created us and made us in His divine image, and can separate the created from the Creator. We are His most divine creatures, gifted with great intellect and a hunger to know more and a thirst to understand. Let our hearts be enlivened in the Holy Spirit as we can proclaim the glory of our Lord God to all of creation and allow Him to use us to be the caretakers of His creation, so we may shine out His glorious light and lead others into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
