Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Colossians 3:16, ESV
Paul’s words of promise and hope begin with a calling for all of us as Christians, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” This word of promise and hope points to a God who loves His creation and was willing to give Himself fully for its redemption. When we look to Christ, we see the promised hope. We can see how God sits before us, and His desire is not to punish us, but to make us holy. He seeks to set us apart from all else and give us everything. His desire isn’t to create suffering for us, but to be the central focus of our existence; yet He is often pushed to the fringes and relegated to a lower position in our daily lives. So, here we are reminded of Paul's call to us, as He points to the blessed hope that is out there for us all. Letting the Word dwell within us reveals to us all of His promises and builds within us a song of hope that pours out in song and a sense of hope and thankfulness; all of this leads us into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
