1 Corinthians 6:19

Or do you not know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

1 Corinthians 6:19, LSB

This is difficult for many who value autonomy, but there is no such thing in Christ. We are set apart for the glory of God and our bodies are no longer our own. This is what Paul is saying to the people of Corinth and all who read this letter. We carry God with us wherever we go. As we are claimed by Christ, we bring our Lord into every space and every place. Take a moment and ponder that reality. Looking just above and below it is a call for those who were engaging in immoral acts. God knows when we abuse our bodies or when we engage in fornication or debauchery. He is there in the midst. Our Lord knows. Our Lord forgives. As followers of Christ, we have been set apart for so much more. How empty and fruitless are the passions of the world, here for a moment and gone tomorrow? We see the emptiness it leaves as we see the shells of those carved out by the abuse. Christ seeks to fill those spaces and renew those who are broken. He utilizes us to pick up those who have been tossed aside and be the carriers of hope and not continue the pattern of abuse by those who have forgotten in whose image every person has been made. We bear within us our Lord and with Him, we bring His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
