Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105, ESV
The Word of our Lord is meant to be the ultimate guide for us in every aspect of our lives. As we read the Word of God, we gain insight into ourselves and ultimately come to know the heart of God. The more we read, the deeper our Lord opens Himself to us and uplifts our souls as we look at the world and its rejection of Him. We are given light in the dark paths of life and are shown the pitfalls that lie before us. He provides us cover from the harm that wishes to bring us down and gives us the strength to endure the suffering that will come before us. We can better understand our failures and find hope during the most difficult of times. The Word of God is meant to be the sole norm of our faith and life, and we may look to it because we can confidently know that it stands without error and in it there is truly no fault. The more we pray for God’s opening of it to us and to our hearts, the deeper He leads us, and the clearer it all becomes as we are brought into Him and given His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
